New Tools for Enhancing Production Logistics: Wireless Data Collection Networks
Manufacturing and warehousing operations are increasingly making use of automation to lower costs, increase productivity, and improve customer service. This is evidenced by the growing use of integrated KANBAN and ANDON systems to improve product flow. However, in selected environments and applications - such as those involving mobile inventory racks, AGVs, and areas difficult to conveniently access with wired control components - production and logistics optimization has been challenging or hampered.
The development and recent introduction of a range of industrial-grade wireless switches, sensors, command devices and network gateways has enabled a number of companies to address these challenges and provide valuable “real-time” production/inventory information to their ERP systems. In so doing they have been able to:
- Increase productivity
- Reduce downtime
- Lower costs
- Speed decision making
- … without the expense or inconvenience of running cables to the data collection points.
This interactive, hands-on Workshop will provide an overview of this wireless technology, present a number of successful applications, and allow attendees to experience a simulated installation.
